A Few Things

DSC_0328

The weather has been so much nicer the past couple of weeks so we’ve enjoyed dinner on the patio. And he loves to point out the airplanes!DSC_0357

Hud enjoys getting to spend more time outside chasing the dogs!

DSC_0359

He runs and runs the backyard!

DSC_0405

His buddy Ayden came for a visit and brought him some adorable clothes and room décor (pictures of the boy's rooms to come!)

DSC_04061

Peyton got to come too! Hud was nice enough to let her drive the car, that usually doesn’t happen.

DSC_0520DSC_0523

We went for a haircut, although Hud thinks we mostly just go to play.

DSC_0525

He started out like this….

But then we got to give Buzz a haircut too and he calmed down!

More detailed updates to come soon!

Labor Day

I'm backtracking just a little while to get caught up. I has to share some pics of Hud's visit to see his Gigi & Pops. He absolutely adores them even though he doesn't see them very often. They are the two people he always prays for very first at night.
He did lots of cooking with Gigi and they made this cake that he ate the icing right off of because that's what you do at your great grandparents house. Right?!

He helped uncle Bobby stack wood aka he picked up sticks while Bobby stacked wood ;)
And we sang Happy Birthday to uncle Bobby and ate more icing off of the cake!
There was a lot more fun to be had, but this boy did all he could to stay awake. He was completely zonked before we even got out of town. Thanks for letting us visit Gigi & Pops. We love and miss y'all!

Veggie Tales

DSC_0307

Ms. Heather was so awesome to give us the Veggie Tales Live tickets her husband won! (They have older children who are probably a little too grown for the cute produce characters).

DSC_0291

Of course Hud can’t go to a show without his popcorn! And yes, he definitely finished demolished that whole bag!

DSC_0293

“No time for smiling mom, the show is on!” Yeah he didn’t really say that, but you know he was thinking it!

DSC_0306

It was a nice little mommy & Hud date! We don’t have very many more weeks for those, but we have a few more things planned before it becomes mommy and the boys!

DSC_0322

Hud was excited that he could leave sporting a brand new set of silly bandz in the shape of Bob, Larry and the other vegetables!

DSC_0323

He now has a wrist full of veggies!

DSC_0325

And the best part is that we got to sing silly songs and hear about how God made us special! I’m so thankful for this silly little show that teaches my boy how much God loves him! Because we just could never hear it or tell others enough! So remember GOD LOVES YOU!

First Preschool Day

DSC_0165

Hud knew that school time was here and boy has he been excited. I opened his door yesterday morning to get him up and he was awake and sitting up in his bed already. The words from his mouth were “I want to go to school.” He got right up and was ready to get out the door!

DSC_0171

Unfortunately I couldn’t take him (I’ll get my turn in November) so his daddy and his babysitter both went since they will be taking him and picking him up regularly.

DSC_0175

This picture makes me so happy Smile Ryan said it was definitely hard to let him go, but they both made it out without any tears. There was a little girl who was really having a hard time (bless her heart) so I think that had H a little worried. But he quickly found the train tracks and was ready to play!

DSC_0179

This picture seriously makes me want to cry. He looks so big standing by his table like that!

DSC_0187

I don’t think it took him long to get comfortable!

DSC_0176

He had a really fun day and his teacher said he followed directions very well and was very kind! When I asked him about school the first thing he told me was, yes you guessed it…he rode the train!

Then he told me this:

“Ms Ristina painted me” (and held up his hand)

“She did?”

“Ya it’s orange”

“It’s not blue” With one finger in the air…

“It’s not?”

“It’s not green, It’s not purple”

Still waving that finger in the air! Ha! I guess he had a great time, he’s talking about going back! And yes I’ve totally made a big deal about him going to preschool, but it’s important to me and I’m excited for him! I love that boy to pieces!

Meet the Teacher

Like I posted earlier, Hud is starting preschool this week! He has been looking forward to it since we went to visit and meet the director this summer!

DSC_0016

Last week we went to meet his teacher and I didn’t ever think he was going to leave! I think he felt right at home with the owls all over just like in mommy’s room!

DSC_0019DSC_0021

He played in the kitchen and read a book! He was also really excited when he saw the train track, but that isn’t set up yet! Thankfully his teachers limited the number of things that were out or else he would have played all night!

DSC_0020

They have a cute little rug and circle time area. I admire anyone who can do that with 2 year olds. I do it all day long with 5’s and I’m not sure I would want to try any younger than that. It’s hard work!

DSC_0023

This is one of his teachers. I’m sure he will love the other one too when he gets to meet her. She’s currently out but will be back in a couple of weeks. But for now he keeps talking about going to see “Ms Ristina” at school.

DSC_0024

And of course we couldn’t go to his school without visiting the giant train on the playground. I’m afraid he’s going to be the kid who never lines up because he can’t leave that train Winking smile

DSC_0030

As we were leaving Ryan and I were both shocked that Hud asked to ride the carousel. He’s been on one carousel ride in his lifetime and it seemed to scar him. At the zoo or Silver Dollar City or anywhere else he absolutely won’t go near it. But last week he decided too and he loved it. Maybe we are changing our mind about them, I hope so!

Tomorrow is the big first day and he is SUPER excited! I’m praying he loves it and that he follows directions! He is in bed and his lunch and nap mat are made and ready to go! I can’t believe he’s “big” enough for preschool. What happened to my baby?

Getting Ready

Hudson is going to “school” this year. It’s something we’ve thought about for a while and decided it would be the perfect time with the new baby coming. It will just be two days a week, but it will be something just for him and not his brother. He is definitely going to need those!

One of the things he needs for school is a mat for resting. I could have gone the easy way and bought/borrowed one of the traditional red and blue plastic ones. But with Pinterest at my fingertips I decided there were enough cutes ones out there and lots of tutorials that I could do it on my own. I didn’t follow one tutorial exactly but mine most resembles the one from Simple Dimples.

DSC_0087

I started with:

two yards of Chevron fabric (I’m sort of obsessed)

1/2 yard minky dot

2 buttons

And a roll of ribbon that I nixed at the last minute.

DSC_0088

I cut my fabric and laid it them right sides together.

DSC_0091

Then I made two tabs for my buttonholes. These are 4x6” with 1/2” seam.

DSC_0093

Then I put the tabs between my fabric, pinned it in placed and sewed three of the four sides. (The other side is where I’m going to put Velcro.)

DSC_0096

It looked like this when I flipped in right side out.

DSC_0104

Then I took a break from that to make his pillow and blanket. He already had the pillow I just used the measurements to make a coordinating one for his nap mat.

DSC_0101

Then I used the leftover minky and chevron to make a blanket. It’s small, but I think it’s all he needs for a 45 minute rest time.

DSC_0103

Don’t look too close, my sewing is way below beginner level. And everything is still wrinkled at this point.

DSC_0108

The next thing I did was iron a 1/2” section over so that there would be a finished edge and sew in Velcro. I decided on Velcro because I really wanted to be able to take it apart and wash it. I know how many germs go around a classroom and although I’m  not afraid of germs I would like to keep this and reuse it for a while!

DSC_0109

The last thing to do is insert the foam (two of them). If you were smart (unlike me) you would make your fabric to fit the size of the foam. I hadn’t originally planned on the foam so mine didn’t fit perfectly. I just trimmed it to the right size and inserted it in.

DSC_0125

You might as well take a break and test it out! Notice there is less sunlight in my pictures because I worked on it when I could throughout the day and evening.

DSC_0129

It looks like he’s in love so I guess I should finish it!

DSC_0142

The only parts left were to sew on the buttons and make the button holes to roll it up. I entrusted the help of my very talented mother in law. She does all kinds of sewing and has really good machines so I knew she could do it in no time! Thankfully she made it super easy and then I added the ribbon so H could throw it on his shoulder to carry it.

DSC_0147

I just rolled up the blanket inside and it’s ready to go!

DSC_0154

I’m hoping this will at least entice him to lay down when it’s time and not be the kid who is running all over the room saying “I don’t way to lay down.”

DSC_0149

Now it’s going in the wash for one last cleaning before his big first day at school!
